The Silly Little Things

It is funny and a little ridiculous, all the silly things one ponders when on the brink of an unknown and life changing adventure. In the few weeks before I had Levi I remember thinking how weird it was going to be that I was going to be “one of those people” who has toys all over their living room and tiny little clothes scattered around. I remember wondering how I could get away with having the necessary toys when needed, and yet keeping them out of site at other times.

The changes that have taken place in me are clearly demonstrated in these little things. Not only do I not care about the fact that I have toys strewn about, I love the way my house looks with them. All the stuffed animals, the singing toys, the tiny mismatched socks, all of these things are evidence of something so wonderful to me – the presence of that little boy in my home.
I have become such a weird person. I literally feel joy well up inside me when I look at his little clothes in the laundry basket and envision how cute he looks in every little thing.
That being said. We went out the other day to catch a few pictures with the fall colors. He was not in a smiling mood, mostly because he was so focused on his new trick – sitting up. I know I am partial, but his serious expression is every bit as cute as his smile.

A Belated Three Month Post

My sweet little boy turned four months old this week and I am just now going through his three month pictures. In my defense it has been a busy month. I will expound more upon all of the changes in my world with Levi soon. For now, here is the product of our three month photo session. I feel like there are no strong enough words to describe how much I love this baby.... but I am sure moms everywhere understand.

Kali and David say, "I Do"

I had the privilege of capturing Kali and David's big day on June 26th. And what a spectacular day it was indeed. The bride and all her guest were threatened with fire, evacuation, helicopters, rain, hail, oil spills, and who knows what else. A family that could have been overcome with stress seemed to laugh at how ridiculous it all seemed and continued with their preparations. I admit that I felt a sense of foreboding as I drove to the site of the beautiful outdoor wedding and found that the clouds were opening up to drop their showers upon the event. And yet, when the ceremony hour came it was as if a calm came over the whole place. The sky was clear the helicopters had stopped, and the family and friends made it up safely. It was a beautiful ceremony followed my a wonderful reception. The rain clouds made for an amazing sunset and the ambiance of the whole place rang with happiness for the newlyweds.

Best Friends

Having a big family is such a blessing. If for no other reason, my children will not have a shortage of good friends. I am a big believer in association and when I look at the state of our society I sometimes wonder if my child will ever be able to leave the home, gym, and church... sheltered? You better believe it. Thankfully he will get much socialization from many wonderful little friends whose parents are likeminded in beliefs and parenting.

Watson, Levi's big cousin of four months old, came over for a visit yesterday. I had to take some pictures of these two adorable boys side by side. The first of many to come I am sure.

A Family

I have been having such fun taking pictures of my baby. He is just the cutest, most photogenic little guy in the world. I got some of the most special pictures of him and his daddy when he was just eight days old. I even got to sneak in a few, Cory is becoming quite the good assistant and he is SO patient with me with all these pictures. Amazing to think that we are a family now.

How Come No One Ever Told Me

I have been trying for a week to sit down and write a little, for fear I would forget the tremendous range of emotions that I have been feeling. I still feel that I do not have the words, nevertheless, I will regret it later if I don't, for my own sake, take a moment to try.

Ten days ago my life changed forever when I brought this most amazing little guy into the world. Most incredible day of my life.

I have always been the one who knew I would be a mom someday, but was hesitant to take that step. Indeed, I never stopped being nervous about it throughout my whole pregnancy.  I remember a few years ago one of my sisters was telling me about a movie she watched (I don't even know what movie) in which a woman who did not want to have children got pregnant by mistake. When she was holding her new baby in her arms, she was crying as she said, "how come no one ever told  me it would be this way." I remember getting choked up when my sister told me about that scene, because I knew the inevitable moment would come when I would be that woman holding my new little baby and thinking the same thing.

Well the moment has come, and the range of emotions that I have experienced in the last ten days is indescribable. The moment they placed this little guy on my chest I felt a surge of love within me that no one could ever have found the words to describe. It is something merely to be felt. I wish I could relive that moment. He just lay there and looked in my eyes, as if he were listening to my familiar heartbeat, recognizing that I was his mom.

Everything that was once important to me is fading away in comparison to the needs of this little human who depends on me for everything. Sometimes I want to just sit and cry for fear that I am doing an inadequate job, but little Levi looks up at me as if I were the greatest thing in the world. My sister asked me if now that I knew how wonderful it was, if I wished that I had started this journey of motherhood long ago. Quite the contrary, I feel so thankful that I am still in the midst of this beautiful experience.

A little bit of rambling... but later I will be thankful that I at least attempted to jot down what is in my heart. Here is my little prince five days old. The cutest thing in the world.
