Thursday again…. Time to talk discuss marriage alongside Admissions of a Superhero. I hope I have not already exhausted the topic.
I have been racking my brain trying to come up with something brilliant about marriage. As if I, who have been married for a mere three years, was going to have an amazing epiphany to share with the world (or just my few followers).
Then I realized that it is not necessarily about that. It is about finding a revelation that is true for me. And if it speaks to someone else, then God bless it.
After I had that little paradigm shift it was easy to find something that was relevant to me, my marriage, and my life.
I was reading Ephesians and (because I was already thinking about marriage) found this scripture to be particularly poignant in the context of the relationship of husband and wife.
Be completely humble and gentle; Be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace.
What an amazing and profound scripture. Sometimes I think that it is easier to be humble, gentle, and patient with others outside the home than inside. But that is absolutely wrong! We are supposed to be that way to others, yes, but how silly would it be to be our best selves to strangers and then be impatient, unloving, and full of pride with your spouse.
And so I am taking the scripture to heart specifically in my home. Paul says we are to make every effort. That does not leave a lot of room for unkind and unloving actions. I am going to determine that all of my words and actions are filtered through gentleness, love, patience, and peace.
