Today I am very excited to be co-hosting the Faith and Fellowship link
up with Susannah at Simple Moments Stick. It is such a blessing to encourage
and be encouraged by a group of like minded women.
So here is a fun opportunity to share a piece of this amazing spiritual journey that is serving God.
Life is so funny sometimes. Why do we get carried away by our emotions? Ever feel like the little guy in this picture? I know I have my moments. Just a few days ago I was just blasting worship music while I was cleaning. I felt so full of life, peace, love, happiness, the Lord. All of the worries and cares that I had been dealing with kind of melted away as I worshiped under my breath. I remember thinking I should just always stay in that place of thankfulness and worship.

All of the worries and cares that I had been dealing with kind of melted away as I worshiped under my breath. I remember thinking I should just always stay in that place of thankfulness and worship.
And then the moment passed. Literally…. Just that night a bunch of little things happened that
stripped it all away. Just life. I was worried about everything. I was
irritated. I was unhappy. I felt lost. I was lying in my bed at night, unable to sleep,
and quietly asking God for answers.
How could I let the little frustrations in life bring me from such a
wonderful high to such a sad low?
I know what God’s promises are for my life, but it is still vital
to be reminded and refreshed on a regular basis. I can name many scriptures off
the top of my head that point to God’s love, mercy, protection, all of the
good that he has in store for you and me. And yet… life can just kind of wear
you out. Which is why I am so thankful that we have God’s living and active
word to go to every day!
I came across a scripture that spoke to me in such a profound way.
For the Lord God is a sun and
shield; the Lord bestows favor with honor; no good thing does He withhold from
those whose walk is blameless”
Psalm 84:11
What a wonderful passage. The reference in my study Bible for sun is, "the glorious source of light and life." That just struck a powerful chord. When things seem dark, he is light. When things seems sad or hopeless, he is life for me. And then on top of that he bestows favor and honor. And finally, just when you think it cannot get any better, you come to the last statement, "no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless." No good thing does he withhold. Now there is a promise for you to stand on.
At first I was thinking that blameless is a rather big word. How can we ever be blameless? The word "blameless" brought a specific scripture that I memorized long ago to mind.
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become
blameless and pure, children of God, without fault in a crooked and depraved
generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.
Philippians 2:14
So there you have it... don't complain and don't argue. Be thankful for what the Lord has given you. And then you will put yourself in a position to receive all that God has for you.
When "life happens" don't forget to head to the word. That is where you will find strength, peace, comfort, hope, joy... everything you need.

Yes! We can't let our moods or outward irritations affect how closely we follow and obey God--real truth is in His Word.
ReplyDeleteSo true! Sometimes I wonder why in my moment it is so hard... because I always, without fail, feel his peace when I turn to Him.
DeleteWhat a beautiful perspective. I wish I had a verse pop out at me like that every time I needed a reminder of His love. Then again, I need to work on taking my Bible out when I'm really struggling instead of crawling into bed.

Thanks for stopping by, Amanda! Trust me... I have had those moments many times. That is one reason why I think memorizing scripture is so important. Choose a few verses that give you peace that you say over and over in your head when you are struggling. It is amazing the difference it makes!
DeleteThanks so much for cohosting the linkup, love!
ReplyDeletethank you for the opportunity! It was a pleasure :)
DeleteI was feeling that same way this week too, Jonni. Thanks for the wise words and the great scriptures. I wrote them down and I'm going to memorize them!
ReplyDeleteOh we should have gotten together and had coffee and maple cookies :) Good! scripture memory has helped my attitude and perspective on so many occasions :)
