Last night winter decided to hit the southern California Mountains
early. Yes, it was a blizzard.
Cory and I were just running around the house cleaning,
doing laundry, being busy in our separate sides of the house. Suddenly we were
in pitch black. Amazing how dark everything is when the power goes out in the
whole valley.
All of our projects were put on hold. The heater was off
(naturally) so Cory built a fire and we got all cozy next to the warmth.
Scrabble by firelight. It was so much fun (especially because I rocked him in
the game).
It got me thinking about how oftentimes we get so caught up
in our own separate projects instead of just sitting down together and holding
hands. When the lights went out it forced us both to realize that there was
always tomorrow to do, do, do. Instead
of trying to continue working with my cell phone’s flash light (which, I
confess I tried for a time) we made it a fun date night and a memory.
You don’t need to wait for the electricity to go out to
simplify your evening and just enjoy each other. Stoke the fire, pull out
whatever game you enjoy playing together, make some hot chocolate and get cozy.
These are the moments that life is all about.
